Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® Denver will take place on Sunday, July 18, at Mile High Station. Take advantage of this opportunity to sample the finest foods, spirits and wine from some of Denver’s most recognized culinary experts and noted restaurants. Sampling Wisconsin Cheeses from BelGioioso Cheese, Carr Valley Cheese, Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese and Emmi-Roth Kase will be 2010-2011 WMMB Chef Ambassador Jorge Miguel de le Torre, Dean of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University, and 2004-2005 WMMB Chef Ambassador Goose Sorensen, Executive Chef/Owner of Solera Restaurant. This year’s beneficiaries are Operation Frontline Colorado and the Colorado Campaign to End Childhood Hunger. Jaclyn Stuart and Jeannette Hurt, authors of the recently published The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wine and Food Pairing, will be at the Thief Wine Bar, 400 N. Water Street, Milwaukee, to present a variety of wines and cheeses and discuss what works well together, what doesn't and why. Jaclyn is a certified sommelier and a local wine distributor. Jeanette is an expert in all things cheese, having previously authored The Cheeses of Wisconsin: A Culinary Travel Guide. Copies of their book will be available for purchase. Come celebrate your love of cheese at the Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival. This wonderful family event includes music, food, amusement rides, childrens entertainment, walk/run, parade, animal petting zoo, cheese carving demonstrations, cheese tasting, cheese curd eating contest, cheese breakfast, cheesecake contest, and more! The festival will open at 5 p.m. on Friday night and will feature a cheese curd eating contest and musical entertainment of RPM. Saturday will feature the big cheese parade, cheese carving demonstrations, children's entertainment, free cheese tasting, petting zoo, chainsaw artist, and musical entertainment by Straight Chuters, Sonic Circus and Half Empty. Sunday will feature the big cheese breakfast (held at LC Civic Center), cheesecake contest, children's entertainment, free cheese tasting, Little Chute Community Band, and the band performances of Homemade Brew and McInnis There will also be many food booths, novelty booths, children's rides ($1/ride), and games all three days. MERRY EDWARDS, owner/winemaker and James Beard award nominee from Merry Edwards Wines, Russian River Valley, CA. A ledgend in california winemaking circles, Merry is the acknowledged “Queen of Pinot Noir” in Sonoma. Along with her husband, Ken, they produce amazing estate and single vineyard Pinots. She also happens to make the NUMBER ONE Sauvignon Blanc in America- twice listed on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines, last time it was featured at #9. In 1997 she and Ken established Merry Edwards Wines, and have never looked back.
On Friday, June 4, Bacchus Chef, Adam Siegel, will prepare five courses of food paired with three of Merry’s Pinots and of course the Sauvignon Blanc!
